Praise where it is due - Adkins

Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins believes too many people in football are prepared to criticise and not praise.

The Iron have been relegated after one season in the Championship but Adkins has refused to join the critics.

He told BBC Radio Humberside: "We live in a society where it's all about blame - it's a blame culture that we live in and we don't give enough praise.

"I've made loads of mistakes but so has everybody else but we've also done loads of good things."

United failed to beat the drop after being promoted from League One last summer as champions but former physio Adkins is resolute in his belief in what has been happening at Glanford Park.

If you give people a little bit of praise all of a sudden they stand 10ft tall and they try that little bit harder

Scunthorpe round off their season with a trip to play-off-chasing Watford next Saturday before closing their campaign with a home fixture against bottom-of-the-table Colchester United on Sunday week.

Adkins added: "If you give people a little bit of praise all of a sudden they stand 10ft tall and they try that little bit harder - that's every single person but likewise we've got to make sure that the discipline's right and everyone's on top of their game and giving 100%."
