He was given a standing ovation by home fans, who also called for him to stay.
"The last time I spoke to the manager officially was a few months ago and he said there wouldn't be a contract for me next year, he's happy with players he's got and coming through and that would be it," Harris added.
"That could have been my last appearance at the club and I wanted to make it as memorable as possible, not just for me but for the fans here and everybody that's supported me for the last 10 years.
"It was easy going into the game because it wasn't about me, the bigger picture was the club - we needed the points, we needed to get safe."
Harris' future will be discussed at a board meeting on Monday.
Jackett said: "My planning for next year, who stays, who doesn't, my budget is now something I can finally look at and plan and try to bring together.
"It's nice to go into the last week of the season knowing where we are, knowing our status and then planning for next year and obviously Neil comes into that situation.
"I thought he was excellent in a very good team performance.
"The team played very well but Neil played very well and as well as his play I felt he showed leadership for us. As a manager that's something that maybe the supporters don't always assess as well.
"His play was good, his leadership was terrific and it was a major contribution to a good day for us."
