Berwick snap up Gretna's McLaren

Berwick Rangers have signed striker Fraser McLaren from Gretna until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old was not among the 22 players initially made redundant by the Scottish Premier League club in administration on Wednesday.

But he has now received Fifa clearance to make the move despite it being outwith the January transfer window.

McLaren had signed for Gretna from Livingston in 2006 and made six appearances, all this season.

He leaves a club destined for relegation from the SPL to one certain to take the drop to Division Three.

And Gretna coach Andy Smith has complained that the administrator has left the club with just one natural striker - a 17-year-old not considered ready for a regular first-team start.

Meanwhile, midfielder Erik Paartalu is poised to continue playing for Stirling Albion after being made redundant by Gretna.

The 21-year-old had made 10 appearances for the First Division club while on loan.

He and the other redundant players have until 31 March to sign for another Scottish club and Stirling hope to secure his services until the end of the season.
