Davies was previously responsible for the flow of young talent into the first team.
He was Chester's Head of Youth before being given the manager's job at the Deva last month following the sacking of Bobby Williamson.
But, ahead of Saturday's crunch clash at border rivals Shrewsbury Town, he is yet to find a way to reverse the club's dismal streak of results.
Chester have won just twice in 23 matches since Christmas Day - and have picked up just four points from nine games under Davies, who was handed a two-year contract extension earlier this week.
One of those wins, at Mansfield, was Williamson's penultimate game before being given the boot. And the other, Davies's only victory in charge to date, came at home to promotion-chasing Darlington over Easter.
