CRC are mainly comprised of Cambridge's reserve and youth players - but remain a separate entity from United, so Smith has formally gone there on loan.

The 20-year-old made his U's debut in April 2004 when only 17, but has only started five league games this season.

He made his debut for CRC on Saturday as they were beaten 2-1 at home by Mildenhall Town.
