Aberdeen came back from a goal behind to claim a victory that is a blow to Hibs' chances of finishing third and qualifying for the Uefa Cup.
"The fact that they cam from one goal behind against the run of play shows how they were going about their business," said Nicholl, whose side finished the game playing against nine men.
"The sendings-off helped us, but over all I thought we had a grip on the game and should have scored more."
