"We feel it's a decent fixture list," said Scottish Football Association chief executive Gordon Smith after the meeting in Amsterdam.

"Of course it's down to how the team do.

"We've got two away fixtures first up. We have the opportunity to start the campaign on a high, with the fourth and fifth seeds away from home."

Scotland will face both Iceland and Holland on Wednesday nights at Hampden, unlike their failed qualification campaign for Euro 2008 when they played all of their home games on Saturdays.

SFA president George Peat, who handled negotiations along with Smith, was also pleased by the outcome of the two-hour talks.

"We believe that these set of fixtures gives us the best chance possible of securing qualification for the 2010 World Cup," he said.

"We are happy that we have no games during our close-season and have the final two matches at home.

"There is always a certain amount of compromise involved in these meetings but we are satisfied with the final outcome."

Scotland have successfully avoided dates in June 2009 when UK players will be out of season, while those based in Norway and Iceland will be in the middle of their domestic campaigns.

However the SFA are still looking for a new manager to take the team into the campaign, following the departure of Alex McLeish.

"You've probably got at least six or seven people we're looking at and we'll be deciding and having discussions," added Smith.
