Rooney claims final FA Cup award

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has won the FA Cup "Player of the Round" award for his performance in their semi-final against Watford.

Rooney scored twice as the Red Devils ran out 4-1 winners at Villa Park.

The other four contenders for the award were Blackburn defender Ryan Nelsen, Chelsea keeper Petr Cech and Watford goalscorer Hameur Bouazza.

Rooney will join the 10 previous winners from earlier rounds in the "Team of the FA Cup" for 2006/07.

The 11 winners will also receive VIP invitations to the 2007 FA Cup final.

In addition, the winner in each round will be given an engraved silver salver, and £500 worth of football equipment for a local school of his choice.

The final "Team of the FA Cup" for 2006/07 comprises Matt Lewis (Halesowen Town), Gary McPhee (Nuneaton Borough), Byron Bubb (AFC Wimbledon), Paul Booth (Lewes), Kris Commons (Nottingham Forest), Phil Jevons (Bristol City), Jason Puncheon (Barnet), Jamie McAllister (Bristol City), Adam Federici (Reading), Frank Lampard (Chelsea) and Rooney.
