Fulham 2-2 Blackburn
By Mike Burnett

A flurry of second-half goals saw Blackburn twice come from behind to clinch a draw at Craven Cottage.

Fulham took the lead five minutes after the break with Danny Murphy's penalty following Ryan Nelsen's foul on Diomansy Kamara in the box.

But Brett Emerton levelled from close range six minutes later before Kamara put the hosts ahead again, sliding the ball in from four yards out.

With just over 10 minutes left, Stephen Warnock tapped in to seal the draw.

The result again showed Fulham's tendency to let in late goals from winning positions, with the Cottagers having now scored first eight times in the Premier League this season but only having gone on to win once.

Sunday's clash at Craven Cottage had to wait until after the interval to truly come alive as the first half was overshadowed by Benni McCarthy's injury blow just moments into the match.

Blackburn's top-scorer, with five league goals this season, was caught by a lunging challenge from Dejan Stefanovic that struck him across the right knee.

Forced into an early substitution, Rovers boss Mark Hughes, who agreed a contract extension at Ewood Park this week, brought on Jason Roberts for the injured McCarthy but saw his shell-shocked team cancelled out by the hosts in a non-descript first half.

David Bentley tried to argue a penalty in the 11th minute when he was taken down by Stefanovic but was carded for diving.

He also came close later when he failed to get on the end of Warnock's cross from the left which whizzed across the face of goal, while at the other end Camara saw his shot blocked in a one-on-one with Rovers keeper Brad Friedel.

However, this dogged match burst into life just five minutes after the break as Nelsen brought down Kamara in the box and referee Mike Dean pointed to the spot.

Veteran midfielder Murphy made no mistake, slotting away into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.

But McCarthy's replacement, Roberts, proved more of a handful in the second half and was instrumental in both Blackburn's comeback goals.

Six minutes after Fulham took the lead, great work from Warnock down the left saw his cross nodded on by Roberts for Emerton to drill a low shot past keeper Antti Niemi.

There were calls for offside but Fulham again went ahead when the unmarked Kamara, who also appeared to be in an offside position, slid in Simon Davies' pass from the right wing after being sent clear by Murphy.

But the Cottagers showed why they have squandered 13 points from winning positions this season when Warnock snatched the draw for Blackburn.

Warnock neatly converted a cross by Roberts, who muscled his way past defenders Stefanovic and Paul Konchesky, to leave both sides with a share of the points.

  • Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez:
"I'm frustrated. To take the lead twice and still be in front late on in the match, you hope you will win.

"We didn't help ourselves with our defending but we also had abysmal decisions go against us.

"They scored a goal that was clearly offside and we had two appeals for handballs in their area turned down."

  • Blackburn boss Mark Hughes:
"I didn't anticipate I'd lose Benni within minutes of the kick-off and it was difficult from that point on.

"But Jason Roberts came on and was a handful so for him to put in a performance like that was exceptional.

We dominated the game and should have won it comfortably but came away with the point. Overall, we're not too disappointed."
