Commonwealth Games day two review
England's swimmers were in sensational form with two golds and two silvers on the second day of the Games.
Matthew Clay beat compatriot Liam Tancock in the 50m backstroke, while Ross Davenport edged out Simon Burnett in the 200m freestyle.
In the rugby sevens, England won silver after losing 29-21 to New Zealand. Fiji claimed bronze after beating Australia.
Scot Kate Cullen and Wales' Geraint Thomas picked up cycling bronzes, while England's female gymnasts took silver.

CYCLING, TRACK
Scotland's Kate Cullen took bronze in the women's
25km points race
. Reigning champion Katherine Bates of Australia won gold, Rochelle Gilmore got bronze.
Another Scot to impress was Ross Edgar. He was awarded bronze in the men's
Keirin
following the disqualification of Australia's Ben Kersten. Ryan Bailey won gold.
England's Matthew Crampton was disqualified in the heats.
Wales' Geraint Thomas won an impressive bronze in the
40km men's points race
, edging out Scotland's Evan Oliphant.
Sean Finning won gold, making it an Australian clean sweep of the evening's gold medals, with New Zealand's Hayden Roulston getting silver.
SWIMMING
England's Matthew Clay won gold in the men's
50m backstroke
, ahead of compatriot Liam Tancock and South Africa's Johannes Zandberg.
There was more joy for England in the men's
200m freestyle
as Ross Davenport won gold ahead of team-mate Simon Burnett and Canadian Brent Hayden.
Australia won all three medals in the women's
50m butterfly
with Danni Mihtke winning gold. Jessicah Schipper won silver, Alice Mills bagged the bronze.
The hosts again grabbed all the medals in the women's
50m breaststroke
. Hot favourite Leisel Jones won ahead of Jade Edmistone and Tarnee White.
South African Natalie du Toit broke her own world record in the
50m EAD freestyle
, beating Canada's Anne Polinario and Australian Annabelle Williams.
Clay's celebrations were cut short as he had to race in the
50m butterfly
semi-finals. He qualified for the final with Scotland's Todd Cooper, but veteran Mark Foster missed out.
GYMNASTICS
The Australian
women's gymnastics
underlined their dominance in the Games by returning the highest scores in all four apparatus.
Australia took gold with 172.600 points, well clear of England (164.350 points) and third-place Canada (162.550).
RUGBY SEVENS
England had to settle for silver medal after losing 29-21 to New Zealand in the final.
England's Mathew Tait continued his flying form with another try, but it wasn't enough as New Zealand score twice in the closing minutes.
Fiji secured the bronze after beating hosts Australia 24-17.
BADMINTON
The
mixed team
event continued with England's quest to land back-to-back titles gaining momentum as they comfortably beat Trinidad & Tobago 5-0.
There were singles wins for Aamir Ghaffar and Tracey Hallam. In the pairs, Simon Archer and Ella Tripp, Robert Blair and Anthony Clark and Gail Emms and Donna Kellogg all impressed.
BOXING
England's

Danny Price suffered a controversial first round defeat to Australian Brad Pitt in the opening session.
Welterweight
gold medal favourite Neil Perkins from England cruised through his bout with a 13-7 win over Ahmed Saraku of Ghana.
Northern Ireland cousins Dermot and TJ Hamill both came through their fights at

, while Scot Mark Hastie beat Sam Leti Leti of Samoa.
HOCKEY
England's men battled to a 4-3 win in a tough opener against New Zealand, thanks to goals from Simon Mantell, Matthew Daly (2) and Richard Alexander.
England's women outclassed Canada 5-0, captain Kate Walsh grabbing a hat-trick, while the Scottish men suffered a 5-1 loss to Australia.
SHOOTING
England's Mick Gault equalled the record for the most Commonwealth medals won by an English shooter with his bronze alongside Nick Baxter in the
men's 50m pistol pairs
.
Gault's 12th medal moved him level with Malcolm Cooper and also put him within one medal of swimmer Karen Pickering's English record of 13 Commonwealth Games medals.
Isle of Man's Trevor Boyles and David Walton won bronze in the
