Island dog bites toddler in face
Police on the Isle of Wight want to trace a dog that bit a toddler in the face as she visited a beauty spot with her family.

The 19-month-old girl was treated in hospital on Thursday after suffering superficial injuries to her jaw and ear in the attack at Totland Bay.

Police believe the black dog was either a Labrador or a collie and it was seen with two adults and two children.

Sgt Simon Lythgoe, of Hampshire police, said: "This was an unusual incident."

He added: "I am particularly concerned that this incident, which could have been much more serious, was able to happen in the first place."

The child was treated by paramedics at the Needles Battery scene at about 1430 BST before being taken to St Mary's Hospital in Newport.

Witnesses have been urged to contact police.
