Pakistan hit by 'mild' earthquake

A moderate earthquake measuring 5.1 on the Richter scale has struck northern Pakistan, meteorological department officals say.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualities.

The epicentre of the quake is said to be 200km (125 miles) north-east of Peshawar, the capital of North West Frontier Province.

Pakistan says the 8 October earthquake killed more than 73,000 people and displaced millions of others.

The earthquake struck at 1049 (0549 GMT) and was felt in several cities including the capital, Islamabad, as well as parts of Pakistan-administered Kashmir devastated in the October quake.

The region has been hit by more than 1,500 aftershocks since the earthquake.
